Vista will not duel boot for me. Ive tried several times, and it will not work. I installed Vista on another computer without problems, so the disk is fine. When I disconnect the HDD that has XP, vista will install fine, but it still will not duel boot. Thus I know the HDD is fine. Therefor I can conclude that there is some problem with Vista, which is expected I suppose, seeing as it is a Beta program
When installing, i get this message STOP: 0X0000009C (0X00000004,0X83162EC8.0XB2000000,0X00070F0F)

Vista Duel boot
In order to dual boot, your XP drive must be connected during install of Vista. Boot into XP, disc management, format and set to primary the partition you intend to install Vista to. Then install Vista to the partition you prepared. -- Jim

When you say you have tried different ones as primary do you mean as Master or Slave? If so, you have misunderstood primary partition. A primary partition is necessary for an operating system to boot from. To set a partition as primary see my earlier post. -- Jim

First thing is to open My Computer in XP and check that all three drives are listed. Then go to Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Computer Management>Disc Management. Select the drive you intend to install Vista on in the right pane. Right click and select format. Follow the prompts, select NTFS and then select primary as the partition type. When done you should be able to install Vista and be able to choose Vista or XP at boot. Your choices will say Microsoft Windows ( Vista) or Earlier Version ( XP). -- Jim

Make sure the target drive is not being monitored by System Restore. When Windows tells you a file is being accessed, it is being accessed.
